Summary Screen

In order to invest in a fund, the existing app led a user through a long series of steps. While it was functional, it required a lot of improvements:

  1. Since there was no communication about how many steps remained, users could get anxious and abandon the sign-up process.
  2. Once a step was completed, there was no way to navigate back.
  3. If the user could not complete any step — if they didn't have a particular document handy — they could not move on to another step. Users could get frustrated and abandon the entire process.

With the above in mind, we set out to introduce a “Summary Screen”. Here are the salient points of the screen:

  1. The Summary Screen was to be the first screen the user interacted with. Therefore, it served the purpose of orienting the user. We did this by letting the user know all the steps that they would be led through, right up front.
  2. In order to give an overview quickly, the steps were grouped together into 3 groups.
  3. The Summary Screen further allowed the user to arbitrarily move between steps, by clicking on the step they were interested in.
  4. Each of the steps has an indicator on the left, indicating progress:
    1. Completed steps are marked in green. This also gives a sense of accomplishment to the user.
    2. If a user dropped off during a sign up process and returned later, they would be told where they would be resuming from, with an orange indicator.
    3. If a problem occurs in a particular step, a red mark appears on that step. The error is also described briefly.

With all these improvements, we hoped that more users would complete the sign-up process with a lot less anxiety or drop-offs.
